Kate malcolm was born in liverpool and emigrated to christchurch in her late 20’s then later married walter shepherd Kate shepard fought for women's rights to vote and established the first women owned newspaper in the country and was a pioneering cyclist. Kate shepherds last petition was the largest ever with over 32000 signatures kate shepherd established The Women’s Christian Temperance
